the medieval labyrinth seen below is something that should be taken into consideration by building developers when creating new developments; it could be a little confusing to neighborhood drivers at first, but the end result will be safer neighborhoods...entrances for emergency vehicles and/or pedestrians could be strategically placed around the edges of the complex with 'easily plowable' bushes planted to make way for occasional emergency vehicles; a park and/or possibly a corner market could be located in the middle (B); and instead of (A) being the only entrance, a few more main entrances and/or inlets could be designed into the sides of the complex at other locations as well; and a buffer zone around the complex could be shored-up for mixed usage open space/wildlife habitat (and how does this labyrinth concept apply to our neighborhood? - pre-existing neighborhood traffic patterns within entire city blocks could be strategically re-directed to create 'labyrinth-like' effects which would decrease cut-through traffic) check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labyrinth
